The Bride: I met Rachel in 2nd grade, and over the next 20 years or so, we discovered we had a lot in common, from our interests in books and movies, to our style of dress, and even our shared no nonsense attitude toward most things in life. She has become the sister I never had, and we have gone from playing Barbies together to helping plan each others wedding. Our relationship has survived distances and misunderstandings, and we’ve never let anything come between what we know to be a once in a lifetime friendship. When she asked me to be her matron of honor over a year ago, I knew that it was possible to reach an even higher level of friendship, and to this day not a week passes where we don’t call one another.
Matthew Strange, Best Man
The Groom: Strange and I attended Lynchburg College and being English Majors, we shared many classes. In class we would laugh at each others jokes but we never put it together that we should hang out outside of class. Near the end of our senior year, Strange approached me at a party and said he was thinking of moving to Richmond, VA and that we should get a place together. Less than a year after college, he was crashing on my couch and the rest is history. One of my biggest regrets is that we did not hang out in college, however; I am thankful he is my friend now. Thank you Strange for making me laugh during the good times and knowing what to say during the bad times.
Dione Guy, Bridesmaid
The Bride: Dione and I are from the same area, right near the Chesterfield, VA/Chester, VA border, but we didn't meet until after we both moved to North Carolina! Both of us took jobs in different departments at Lowe's Home Improvement Corporate office in Mooresville, NC, but our cubicles were close together. There was obviously something in the stars. We discovered we had attended rival high schools and both grew up in the same part of Virginia. We even both have grandparents and extended family in the Newport News, VA area! Dione helped me get through the frustration of moving to a new area, and became my first real post-college friend. She is one of the most loyal, honest, and determined people I know, and continues to be an admirable influence in my life.
Keith Patton, Groomsman
The Groom: The first few weeks of college can be some of the scariest times of your life. It always helps to make a good friend to help you adjust. For me, that friend is Keith. Keith is one of the real good guys in the world and for that, I am happy to call him my friend. My favorite thing about Keith is how humble he is despite being such a talented guy. He’s the kind of guy who can make a group laugh without trying to be the center of attention. Thank you Keith for your friendship and for providing me with countless good times.
Alana Kelsi Lovett, Bridesmaid
The Bride: Daughter of my father's twin brother and my cousin, Kelsi and I have been close cousins throughout the years. She is a few years younger than me, and my Aunt LaVerne always says even though we are both all grown up now, I still take care of her. We are both only children and despite the distance between us growing up, I always felt she was more of a sister than a cousin. Today, we are finding we have more and more in common as we get older, and I hope to always remain close to her.
Brendan Leahy, Groomsman
The Groom: I first met Brendan through Strange when he moved to Richmond, VA. His personality is so infectious that we became friends almost instantly. Brendan is the guy you want to have in any setting because he is so energetic. Brendan’s energy is the same whether he’s hanging out in a large group or watching his beloved Raiders. More importantly, Brendan is the guy who will do anything for his friends. I know that if I ever need anything, he is only one phone call away. Thank you Brendan for brightening up boring days and being a loyal friend.
Shannon Lovett, Bridesmaid
The Bride: Shannon is also my cousin, daughter of my father's older brother Lawrence Lovett, Jr. (Bubba). Although we weren't as close in my younger years, I have grown closer to Shannon in the past few years, and we've both realized how much we have in common. She is one of the hardest working, honest people I know and her strength and determination are admirable.
Sean Williams, Groomsman
The Groom:Some of my best days were in highschool and a large part of that was because of Sean. Back then, he always kept me laughing and he hasn’t stopped since. Despite the distance, we keep in touch several times a week with telephone calls during the long work commute. What impresses me most about Sean is that –subconciously or not-- he made the effort to keep this friendship going despite the distance of college and then states. Thank you Sean for being a great friend to me from teenage years into adulthood.
